Aujourd’hui, figure de proue du mythique orchestre « Poly-rythmo » (groupe à succès retentissant dès la fin des années 1960), il a été repéré pour y jouer grâce à sa réputation d’excellent bassiste et chanteur à la présence scénique remarquable qui lui collait déjà à la peau dès le début de sa carrière. Pendant qu’il prestait un soir avec son groupe « Daho jazz », deux membres de l’orchestre qui deviendra « Poly-rythmo » sont allés le démarcher. Il ne donne pas une suite aussitôt mais ces derniers n’ont pas cessé d’insister car « l’orchestre avait besoin d’un harangueur de foule ». Vincent Ahehehinnou sait tenir en haleine un public, ceci le caractérise par-dessus tout ! Et pour s’en convaincre, il fallait le voir à l’époque chanter ses propres compositions ou interpréter des titres d’ailleurs comme « I feel good » de James Brown. Son aventure avec le « Poly-Rythmo » démarre en 1968 et il sera le deuxième compositeur du groupe après Clément Melomè.
