Aujourd’hui figure de proue du mythique orchestre « Poly-rythmo » (groupe à succès retentissant de la fin des années 60), il a été repéré pour y jouer grâce à sa réputation d’excellent bassiste et chanteur à la présence scénique remarquable. qui lui collait déjà à la peau dès le début de sa carrière.
Alors qu’il se produisait un soir avec son groupe « Daho jazz », deux membres de l’orchestre qui deviendra « Poly-rythmo » sont allés le démarcher. Il n’a pas donné suite immédiatement, mais ce dernier n’a pas cessé d’insister car « l’orchestre avait besoin d’un harangueur de foule ». Vincent Ahehehinnou sait tenir en haleine un public, cela le caractérise avant tout ! Et pour s’en convaincre, il fallait le voir à l’époque chanter ses propres compositions ou interpréter des titres venus d’ailleurs comme « I feel good » de James Brown. Son aventure avec le « Poly-Rythmo » débute en 1968 et il est le deuxième compositeur du groupe après Clément Melomè.
